The gardens are only open one day a month, so we were really lucky to hit on the right day. The castle is a beautiful building and has clearly had a lot of time and money lavished on it. It's a private home and we weren't able to go inside but the gardens and setting made the visit well worth...

I visited the gardens at Chilham Castle. It was a lovely sunny day and the views from the castle were stupendous. The topiary in the garden was fantastic. The gardens were nice and the walk down and around the lake beautiful. The staff selling tickets were smiley and very helpful. From there I walked into Chilham itself and walked around...

absolutely mesmerising, a must see if in the area. The architect is beautiful and has some really interesting history.
Visited on a National Garden Schemes (NGS) afternoon and was bowled over by the sheer elegance, gracefulness and spectacle that is Chilham Castle Gardens. With truly classic terraces leading down through gardens, and tennis courts to a tranquil and delightful lakeside walk that facilitates a mind set of the way of life enjoyed by our more prosperous forebears.

Chilham Castle is not the most impressive Castle, but it is charming and the grounds are lovely.
If you are in the Canterbury area to see the Cathederal and the town, do not forget to go to see Chilham Castle, it is well worth a visit and should get a mention, when tslking and reviewing Canterbury. Paul and Joan Bennett
While the castle is a private house, & isn't generally open to the public, the gardens are opened roughly once per month (not so often over the winter) and are lovely to wander around.
