Any visitor to Montreal will want to know about the visual arts scene and this museum gives you a crash course in Quebec visual arts from the beginnings of abstraction til yesterday... paintings are gems but there is a lot of sculpture, conceptual AND there is an enormous area in which special shows are mounted for maybe 3 months so... loved every bit of Laurent Grasso's exhibit...equally intriguing as it was frightening. leaves an impression, in the very least, from its darkness.

I am a sculptor and so hoped for much inspiration at this museum. I was done in about 20 minutes. I was pretty shocked that for all of the beautiful building and $12 entry fee and overall setting there was such a limited collection of art. It reminded me of the exact feeling I had when I went to the... More

We stopped in for a bit of an art adventure and found one as soon as we walked in. There was a couple simulating passion on the floor in the lobby!!! Talk about awesome! It is a cool museum. The docent knows about the artwork and can speak with you in length about what is what. The permanent collection is... More

We were there in October as we have to travel to Montreal for business. We liked the exhibit they have. The surrounding is also interesting. We will go back

My opinion is probably biased by the fact that I'm not a huge fan of modern art, but I do occasionally find modern art museum that I like. This was just not one of them. Other than the short movies, I had a hard time attaching to a theme of any sort when wandering around the gallery. Some of the... More

Very well thought out exhibits paired with an equally well thought out floor plan that encourages the appreciation of contemporary art even for the slightly curious tourist. We saw Ai Wei Wei's jaw-dropping animal horoscope exhibit. Montreal is lucky to have such a space.

Whether it is for a temporary exhibit or to see the permanent expositions, I always find that this museum as one of the finest in north america. The employees are very knowledgeable and friendly, ask them quations on arts there will provide very pertinent feedback.

I really enjoyed my time in the gallery. I spent about 1.5 hours slowly wandering through the rooms. The visiting and permanent exhibits were nice. I disagree with some of the negative reviews - yes you have to pay, but if you appreciate modern art you will enjoy it.

The Zoo exhibit takes you to places you do not expect, nor necessarily want to be, but you come abreast of some work that will not permit you to be ambiguous. The balance of the museum is also a treat - and a challenge.
