My husband and I were the only two people at Chaak Tun when we arrived. Based on previous reviews, we did get a guide and it was the best decision we could have made. We tipped him 100 pesos and he really helped us find things that we otherwise wouldn't have found. The water is cold, but you're in a... More

Did the half-day excursion, was perfect. Three ziplines was plenty, and an hour of snorkeling was just right. The guide (Cerbando?) did a wonderful job taking care of us.

Definitely off the beaten path. Chaak tun was closed on Sunday so we came back the next day but were short on time because of an afternoon flight. Carlos was very helpful and told us where to go. The first cave is small, but beautifully lit, you swim under stalactites (watch your head!) and into another cave with natural light.... More

Best cenotes in Playa del Carmen. As other reviewers mentioned, go in the afternoon. It was just us and our tour guide, Carlos. Would reccommended the tour guide, informative and will take you to parts that you might not neccessarily enter on your own. There is no extra cost for the tour guide, he works on tips.

A bit off the beaten path, you can take a taxi for about 150 pesos to this cenote, which is about 20 minutes from the ferry dock. There are three separate caves, all with pools of varying depths, the largest of which is more than 15 feet deep. All have bats and cave catfish. Us a guide if you can... More

the guide was great with us - made the kids feel very comfortable! It was nice to get a bit of history with the tour.

We went on this tour in March with our 14 year old Granddaughter. It was just super. We were in the caves for about 3 hours. Our guide, Mannie, was just great and was very informative. He spoke good English. It is not scary, except if you look for some of the bats on the ceilings. They provide the lifejackets,... More

We took a taxi from our hotel - 150 pesos. We did the 360 peso package. Our two 8 year olds were only charged 200 for the package. We loved it. Really incredible site. Can't imagine having done it without a guide - just to take us through it. We had the taxi come back for us in two hours... More
