We took the ferry from Playa Del Carmen to Cozumel without any plans. We assumed there would be beaches right off the ferry landing but we were wrong! Luckily we hooked up with a cab driver who took us all the way to Chen Rio for 180 pesos. He also returned to pick us up and take us back to... More

We posted a review a couple of years ago about the danger of the rip tide at Playa Chen Rio, and see a posting where someone told their kids not to go past the rocks on the outer edge. We are two adults, and we did NOT go past the rocks on our own accord. The beach when we were... More

If you want to break out from the pack and discover on your own, hop on a scooter go visit Chen Rio. You can stake out your 'private' beach front anywhere along this stretch of white sandy beach. Stay there as long as time permits. If you're hungry, there are plenty of restaurants along the way. More

As cruise ship passengers in Cozumel for the day, we rented a car and drove to the east side of the island. Although we intended to stop at Playa Bonita for drinks, nachos and a beautiful view, we passed it and decided to see what was ahead. A dozen or more cars were parked at Chen Rio, so we stopped.... We had received the use of a jeep (and other enticements) in return for giving up a couple of hours touring & sitting through a sales pitch for one of those "vacation clubs". While visiting the "wild side" of the island we decided to stop at Playa Chen Rio beach club. The majority of the patrons were locals, not tourists... More

We wanted to get out and explore "the other side of Cozumel," and the excellent concierge at the El Presidente Intercontinental recommended a stop at Playa Chen Rio. If you are looking for a memorable getaway from the usual tourist stops, this is your place. Playa Chen Rio is on the eastern coast of the island, where you'll find mile... More

We are in Cozumel for 10 days, and rented scooters for a trip around the Island. The waters on the coast were very rough, and then we came upon Playa Chen Rio! There is a very sheltered bay, with rocks all around, and a narrow opening to the ocean with huge waves. Very protected. Families playing. My husband was floating... More

We rented a Jeep and went to En Rio based on a recommendation from a friend. It was one of the best days we had on the island... it's not just the place, it's that there are very few people (relatively) on that side of the island. En Rio is very simple place with chairs in the sand, some shade... More

A group of friends/ co-workers visited the island on 9-29-09 and had a blast. An employee of this great local hot spot spent al ot of time explaining the island, the fish and large rock mounds as well as the hidden cave. He was super sweet and will be remembered for an absolutely fabulous time. The drinks were great and... More

We just returned from a Caribbean cruise (Carnival) that included a brief stop in Cozumel. We rented a Jeep (at the port of call) because we wanted to see the island more than just the local shopping. We asked about public beaches that the locals go to and were pointed out to the area on the East side of the... More
