We have visited all Ruins and this is by far the best one. Its a hour off the road so make sure you have all you need. Good shoes for walking are a must. Also sunscreen bring lots of sunscreen and water.
When you get to the top you can see Jungle for miles and miles WOW

Worth the extensive detour, Calakmul is replete with pyramids and several plaza/acropoli. There is no hotel nearby, nor are there food establishments anywhere in the vicinity. The panormic vists from the two tallest pyramids are breathtaking!
The 60 km. road from the main road to Calakmul is asphalted, but laden with potholes.
The trees growing out of the temple stones...

If you want to visit Maya ruins choose this. Trip is difficult but rewarding. Place is huge and views from the top of pyramids - over jungle continuing as far as you can see - are one the finest what I have seen. Please reserve whole day there is plenty to see and feel. Unfortunately overnight is not possible, nearist...
