This theater has magic like Oaxaca city. Just one block from the main square Zocalo. From the outside it just looks like a nice building. But please try going inside, there are daily opening visits, but also what I would recommend would be a visit in a cultural event, this is: theater plays, concerts, and a lot of movie projections... The elegant period architecture of the theatre truly contributes to Oaxaca's history in art. Definitely we recommend taking a complete tour of the building.

I didn´t have the oportunity to see an spectacle here but what I can tell you is that this place offers a tour Monday to Friday at 12 and 13 hours. If you are not going to be there when there is some kind of show, better to plan your schedule for this tour that is almost 100% unknown. The... More

Go to anything you can it this theater, just to experience the Porfiriata era ceiling paintings, the gilding, and the great box seats. Fortunately, many events are held here during the month. The Oaxaca Cine offerings give you a chance to practice your Spanish.

There are tours at noon and at one each weekday. We were the only people touring and the guide seemed a bit annoyed to have to take us through the building. My spouse speaks Spanish and asked the guide to pause frequently he could translate for me. The guide did not pause unless my spouse interrupted him. The building is... More

This century-old theater is worth visiting for its amazing elaborate handiwork and sense of a bygone era. We attended a Japanese anime film festival (in Japanese with Spanish subtitles) but they also hold NY Met Opera HD films and other special film presentations. Go whether or not you understand what is on the screen; it's the theater itself that you... More

We are regular visitors. We go to "The Met" simulcasts, we go to concerts, often free, because that is the kind of place Oaxaca is and because the Harpe-Helu's are very generous to the people of Oaxaca. The structure was build in 1910 - beginning of the Revolution and the end of Porfirio Diaz. Reflects Diaz's love of luxury. Small... More

It really doesn't matter what you go to see, the theatre is that beautiful. We have been to all kinds of musical events - some good, some great. They also do HD of the NY Met opera - so lots of variety.
