You must see this tiny chapel on the highest elevation in the Bahamas. Climb onto the roof and share a bottle of wine as the sun goes down. Get down the hill before total darkness however.
Do not miss this stop. It's definitely worth the mild climb to see the hobbit- like, peaceful, amazingly beautiful getaway from this holy man. Beware of hornets and spiders which were everywhere. But the view from above is amazing
The Hermitage situated on Mount Alvernia (formerly Como Hill) is definitely worth a look-see while on Cat Island. this is a great afternoon visit with interesting history. the water and fishing are the reasons you come to Cat Island so there aren't a lot of things to see -- the Hermitage is a good visit.
This is a must do, but don't take the steps up unless you are super fit. There is an easier track up (as we found out AFTER!)
walking up the mountain was fun because their are the stations of the cross carved our of stone on the way up (each step was hand carved out of the stone.) the veiw once you reached the top was breathtaking. just an amazing experience
