I visited this museum as part of a shore excursion when I went on the Norwegian Sun. I had my doubts at first but this museum is a hidden treasure! The people who run this place are awesome, very friendly, down to earth and knowledgeable about the island and its history. This place has tons of floats from Junkanoo and... More

This museum is located at Ivern House, 31 West St. at Delancey St.in the heart of Nassau’s Historic Hilltop, do not get confused with the exhibition at the wharf! My sister lives in Nassau and she took me to visit this amazing little museum. It was filled with lots of colourful Junkanoo costumes. The young girl working there was a... More

Bahamian culture at its best. Please see. The sound the cowbells make is Kalik, Kalik which is also the name of our very first Bahamian Beer - KALIK! More

The Junkanoo Festival comes from the name of an african slave called John Canoe , they were not able to celebrate Christmas nor New Years but he would hide with his costumes and dance to celebrate it. What they celebrate is the slave's freedom, and they do it at 1:00 a.m. of the 26th of December and the 2nd of... More

This was small museum in the home of the curator. There were a few costumes we were able to try on, and then in the back of the house we made music with cow bells and drums, the traditional instruments of the Junkanoo Parade. This was part of an excursion from a Disney Cruise. It was the most entertaining exhibit... More

We went to the Junkanoo mini-museum when the cruise ship we were on pulled into Nassau. The couple that runs it did a great job of introducing this part of Bahamian culture to us, including hands on participation - playing drums and ringing the bells. The costumes they create for the festival every year were on display, and amazing! They... More

Junkanoo is a celebration in the Bahamas for New Years (also done on Boxing Day 12/26). It is an exciting celebration that draws the whole island together. Expect a never-ending party. The parade lasts from early afternoon well into the night. The parade is free, but you can purchase tickets to assure seating. It is excellent no matter when you... More
