Take a taxi to where you want to go. We walked down Bay to get to some fish fry places and it seemed more abandoned, the further you walk. Walk with a group - it isn't safe to walk alone. We saw an armoured car go by with an escort of 5 police cars. They stopped for nothing, and swerved... More

Yes, I had heard about the 'fabulous shopping' areas on Bay street, as well as the straw market, etc. It is in reality, the same old tourist shopping type of experience you get on any Caribbean island, sans any real uniqueness at all. The actual straw market is buildings that cover stall after stall of vendors selling the same junk... More

Nassau is dirty and full of stores selling the same items. You only need an hour or less to walk around Bay street. The moment you walk into the straw market you will want to leave. If you walk towards the Hilton hotel there is a Dunkin Donuts and a McDonalds and then a public beach is further past that,... More

Our taxi driver took us here after the straw market ..we werent expecting it. But it doesnt look like much from the outside but...was pleasantly surprised by tasting the samples they had out. I ended up buying four different mini rum cakes to take back to family to try..but one didnt make it back from the cruise..I couldnt resist. They... More

Over crowded shopping district with repetitive stores hawking the same merchandise. Extremely disappointing shopping in Nassau. Nothing unique, just the same major vendors you can find anywhere.

I've visited Nassau many times on numerous cruises and it's always if nothing else busy and crowded. The last time we visited there were 4 other ships in port and needless to say what seemed like thousands of people. Lots of taxis, shops, trinkets to buy - the usual. However, the people are always friendly and helpful.

You need to know value for money to shop here. Lots of good jewelry and great prices alongside cheap tee shirt shops. Not a lot of hustlers in the street and you feel safe in Nassau walking around. Negotiate in advance before you get you hair braided beside the Paradise Island bridge...you may get ripped off.

If you like lots of tourists and crowds and mayhem, then Bay Street is for you. It's a great street to catch a jintey (bus) on - just make sure you tell the driver where you're going to make sure you get on/off the right bus. Lots of shops of all kinds all around Bay Street- cheap t-shirts to diamond... More

Average selection of shops. Extremely dirty. Random locals hanging out trying to sell you stuff. Disappointing that this is the area they send all the tourists from the cruise ships to.

We loved the variety of little shops here as well as the awesome views of the big ships in the port. Local artists can be seen in this area with all kinds of shells, paintings and music. Don't miss the Straw Market!
