Been inside quite a few times. Good place to buy souvenirs. Every vendor wants you to look inside their booth. Most vendors sell the same souvenirs. The Mercado Modelo is a good place to have an ice cold beer on a hot day also. Just remember to negotiate for the souvenirs you are purchasing. I would not recommend buying cigars...

Vendors pretty much have the same items... All the sales people work on commission. You must haggle as the price they offer you will be bumped up about 45%. don't be shy they are willing to meet you at reasonable medium. Just outside the market place you will find great local food for a couple of US dollars.

A tourist trap to try to get you to buy local crafts. Some are very nice some are pure trash. It's a fun place to go and haggle with local vendors. If your into that sort of stuff.

This is a good place to come if you are looking for the standard Dominican Republic souvenirs of paintings, jewelry, wood carvings, etc. There are multiple little shops all packed in, in an indoor market so you can wander from place to place and compare prices easily, and be able to bargain a bit.

Just a tip, anything costs always half the first price they tell you.

Apparently we went when there was no one else in the whole center. It might have been a more pleasant experience if we had seen anything else than dozens of vendors trying to pull us to their shop. We were hassled so badly I would never recommend this to anyone. I was so sad because I really wanted to shop...

Word of advice- if you are flying out of Santo Domingo, buy your souvenirs here. They are much cheaper and have more of a variety than most tourist areas. Don't forget you can bargain- don't just immediately go with the price they give you without giving them a counter-offer.
Sometimes it can feel like you are being swarmed by vendors,...
