The Callejon de Hammel is a narrow street in the Cayo Hueso (Key West) suburb on the borders between Central Havana and the Vedado area, very much a working class zone. The alley with its extraordinary murals celebrating Cuba's African cultural and religious roots has been a community project that hasn't always received the support of the Cuban state. But... More

Maybe I went at the wrong time, but I was really underwhelmed with this place, mainly because it's only about 75 yards long. Blink and you'd miss it. And the area around wasn't particularly nice to walk through to get there. I think it must be better on a Sunday. More

We were on a salsa-holiday in Havana and had classes everyday. So we were first sorry that we could not make it to listen to the music on the Sunday we came there. We arrived around 15.30, but in the end we probably made the right choice. All the other tourists had left and it was easy to make contact... More

Visited on a SUNDAY afternoon in 2011 FEB. The loud Afro-cuban live music & the dressed up Afrocuban singers, dancers are the attractive points on Sunday. I was told it's their religious time. Yes, it's packed by tourists & locals, looks like chaos but that's what I've expected as I read info about this place before I went there. So... More

Sundays seems to be the day where there is a lot of live music. When we went it was crowded, no way to see the music, every time I turned around some kid or woman with a baby were asking for money. I keep watching my purse because I felt like we could get pick pocketed. Once people know you... More

We walked through Centro from the Prado for about 30 minutes, up San Rafael, sort of got lost, then found our way. Its kind of a junky, funky artist's collection of outdoor murals and sculptures, some made from old bathtubs. I had expected more, so was slightly disappointed and we left. 15 minutes later a tourist-looking Cuban hailed us as... More

The pictures on the walls are amazing, but if you are there on a Sunday the music starts at about 11 AM and is some of the best in Havana. More

We stayed for 2 hours of the show. there is no cost to attend, though tips and buying of CDs is constantly suggested. There are seats available if you get there early. There is a great band- lots of drums, singing, and dancing. Give it a try More
