May may not be the most beautiful time of year to make this hike, but it's still wonderful. The stream was still flowing. We passed precisely one other hiker on our five mile round trip. It's an easy walk.

Like another review here, I really wanted to love this hike, which is highly recommended in NP literature and in our hiking guide. Our March hike was disappointing -- perhaps because it lacked spring green and fall color. We kept looking for something spectacular around the next corner, and never really found it. The rock and gravel of the pathway...

We enjoyed this moderate hike. It was level and easy. It went from desert to forest in the 3 miles we hiked in. Very beautiful to see yourself surrounded by the canyon. Lots of winds at this time of year though. So be prepared. My 5 and 7 year old were able to hang. Its about 6 miles round trip.
We were stunned by the beauty of this hike in the desert. We arrived after lunch. They said the trail can take up to 5 hours and the gate closed at 6pm so we hustled on trail. After crossing the dry river bed, it isn't long before you turn into an area pleasantly surrounded by trees. The trail is hard...

Easy to access the trail from highway. Easy and short canyon nature trail with lots of interpretative signs. Very educational. Saw some deers as well.
I heard it was snowing in West Texas and so I packed in two hours and hit the road. Twelve hours later I was shivering in my sleeping bag. Lost ten pounds in four days but the trip was fantastic. It rarely snows in West Texas so the shots were worth the suffering. Made only two hikes; Devils Hall and...

It was my first time visiting the area. I am from California and really wasn't expecting to see trees and streams in the middle of the desert. The McKittrick Canyon trail was well groomed, moderately steep and had lots of shade for the summer crowd. We saw small fish swimming in the stream and the Pratt house: an old residence...

As you approach the Guadalupe Mtns Nat'l Park, you see austere mountains and a desert-like landscape, but hike into McKittrick Canyon and you've entered another world. It has its own special ecosystem, interesting Madrone trees, the historic Pratt Cabin and if you hike a little further in, the Grotto. The last time I went I was 61 and not in...

We hiked this on a moderate day, only did up to the Pratt cabin. Pretty easy terrain, great views. Only annoying thing is the large stones that make up most of this trail. Cabin is a nice destination to eat lunch before hiking back. Can get pretty warm and windless in sections. Trail is east to follow, well worth the...

McKitrick Canyon is definitely worth putting on your bucket list. Known for its fall colors and the diversity of the trail it is a definite get away spot if you enjoy nature at its finest. The Grotto is a 6.8 mile round trip hike. We have hiked the canyon Spring, Summer and Fall and have found it intriguing as each...
