Gorgeous views, great paths, too many people. It was expected since this is the main visiting area. For the first views of ever seeing the Grand Canyon, this was fantastic!
This is the first point you see after the visitors center. It absolutely takes your breath away. You can see for miles across the canyon!

It's the first look you get at the canyon, so it got five stars. But I'd say head to the right and get away from the crowds. But easy access and spotless. Please...if you have a dog, remember that our sidewalks get hot enough to burn their feet.
Very nice place to watch the sunset along with hundreds of other visitors but the park does a great job maintaining the park allowing more than enough space to get your sought after photographs.
Mather point is a short walk, uphill, from the Grand Canyon Visitors Center or you can ride to the Point on the park blue line shuttle. The view is great, but this is one of the most crowded locations on the South Rim. All that bing said, it is still worth visiting.

Went to Mather point on the free shuttle bus from the visitors centre having got there from the Yavapai Lodge by strolling for a few hundred yards. Excellent view of the setting sun and the canyon lighting it
lots of people too crowded but it has a lot of look-out. so you don't just have to stay in one place.
