Wife and I have hiked/camped to the bottom (twice rim2rim) three times and loved every inch. Do heed the rangers warnings of taking enough water (we ran out once in 129 degree heat in "the box" near Phantom Ranch), pace your hike for what you can realistically & physically do, and believe that gravity still works when you are near... If you like to hike and are in pretty good physical condition, short day hikes into the inner canyon can be a great way to learn more about the canyon. The beauty and majesty are felt more if you get down into the canyon so you can really appreciate it.

We went on a river rafting trip for 7 days with Western River Expeditions and can only say: DO IT! Go see the Canyon from above and from below! There is nothing like! The experience is nothing like anything else you can do! You see things you would never see from above! Great walks, flora and fauna, fantastically colored rivers,... More

solitude and spectacular desert scenery; well established routes with current information from NPS Rangers and some patrols make this a (relatively) safe and extraordinary hiking experience. Am a repeat visitor and hope to continue - never get tired of the play between landscape and light. Time your visit to avoid brutally hot conditions if you can and pay attention to... More

This gives you a whole different perspective on the Grand Canyon. I've hiked down to Indian Gardens, and I've rafted the Colorado River through the Canyon. Both, trips of a lifetime! But never take the Canyon for granted! Plan your trip well, & take every safety precaution imaginable.

Having been fortunate to obtain overnight camping permits, we spent 2 nights at the Bright Angel Campground. It really is the most incredible experience and offers something different from viewing from the Rim. You get a real sense of how truly special the Grand Canyon is. If you can carry a backpack and get the permit, this is a real... More

We spent 8 days white water rafting the 284 miles of the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon from Lee's Ferry to Pearce Ferry (below Hoover Dam). We used Grand Canyon Expeditions out of Utah as our expedition guide company. What a fantastic experience! As there were only sixteen of us (strangers who became friends), we were in 2 large,... We spent 2 nights in the Bright Angel Campground and it was an incredible experience. We hiked down the South Kabib Trail and up the Bright Angel Trail. Both were challenging but manageable by taking our time, resting, and drinking plenty of fluids. Unforgettable views around every corner. The campground is located on the creek which was refreshing after the hike... More

Everybody's seen pictures of the Grand Canyon and has been ooh-ing and aah-ing over them. And those lucky enough to be able to visit the Grand Canyon are mostly just overwhelmed, since it's a sight like no other, really, and the pictures never do it justice; simply not possible. The vast majority of the masses that flock to the Grand... More

Getting into the inner canyon and away from civilization is a wonderful experience but one needs to be prepared and in top physical shape. Do your research!
