Wizard Island looks like the top of the volcano that blew many years ago. The island looks like it was deposited "nicely" back down to earth. The waters are crystal clear!

This lake is the bluest lake I have ever seen. The trek down to Wizard Island was hard and breath taking to clime out. Be prepared to hick a mile down a steep trail. Not a handicap accessible trail. Also be prepared to hike the same trail out. Hard and difficult to get out. If one has issues with physically...

We took the boat tour at the very end of August. First, call to book it well in advance. I called a couple months before the trip, and it was for a Monday, and they already did not have any availability for the afternoon tour with the Island time. I booked the morning tour. End of August, it was chilly...

The main thing my son wanted to see on our 20-day road trip was Crater Lake. Taking the boat tour out to Wizard Island made that so much more memorable. I normally try to avoid touristy things like this, but this was so worth it. Having a near perfect day helped, too. :)
Seeing the caldera from lake level gives...

The Cleatwood Trail that takes you to the edge of the lake - the only trail that will take you down to the lake - is a strenuous hike. It is a mile and a half with a 700 foot drop in elevation. The park is at 6500+ feet above sea level.
On Wizard Island, there are two more hikes...

Great place to get a different perspective of the caldera, not so many visitors out there also. Lots of good views, and great photography vistas, interesting dead trees also.
Just the thought of the magnificent volano erupting, is awe inspiring! The boat ride I took was really fun & the guide was knowledgeable. The hike down was easy; the hike up, not so much - BUT it was definitely worth it!
We took the Wizard Island boat tour and stopped on the island for 3 hours. The choices are 3 and 6 hours on the island. My group hiked to the top of the crater and had a picnic lunch. Then we hiked down and I swam in the cold water. I brought a bathing suit and water shoes. The tour...

Taking a boat to Wizard Lake can definitly give you an amazing perspective of the park. Its a bit humbling to know that its the result of the active volcano below that is slowly rising agian.
The Boat Tour is well done, with good information from the rangers on the Island and the lake. You need to reserve a space in advance and be sure to consider the weather - it is a 1.1 mi. hike down on uneven ground to the boat ramp with a change in elevation of 700 feet. Remember you are already...
