Hike was tough in certain areas but worth the effort. Rained night before, so slick in spots. Round trip took 2 hours 39 minutes with multiple stops to summit.

This hike has a lot of full sun, so wear your SPF and bug spray. It’s a moderate hike. Our 17 yr old doesn’t really like hiking but is active and did just fine.
Definitely do the Cadillac Cliffs section! It’s only moderately strenuous if you’re in good shape and at just 0.2 miles the views and terrain made it a favorite section for my 19 yr old son and me (47 yrs).
Our cell phones did not work in Acadia. My husband and daughter stayed on Gorham Mtn Trail; we planned to meet up when the paths reconnected. They missed it (which is not normal - my husband is an experienced hiker) and we spent nearly a mile looking for one another. Take a paper map and water!
Note: We took Gorham Mtn Trail caught the Bowl Loop to the Beehive Trail and then took the gravel path (Ocean Path?) stopping at Sand Beach to cool off before heading back to the car which was near Thunder Hole. It was about 4 miles total. Good hike!

We had bad weather and were reluctant to climb the metal rings of the Beehive. So, we tried this path instead. It did not disappoint with spectacular views. We parked in the Sand Beach lot and followed the Bowl train to the summit of the Beehive (avoiding the rings). From the Beehive, we followed the Bowl trail to the Bowl and then to the top of Gorham Mountain. The view from the top of the Mountain was excellent. We then took the Cadillac Cliffs spur, which was very exciting in the pouring rain! The spur takes you make on the Gorham Mountain trail and down to the Ocean Trail. It's about 1.5 miles on the Ocean Trail back to the Sand Beach lot. Overall, a great experience if you want to avoid the more risky section of the Beehive trail.

Its a hike indeed. Not easy but worth it. I loved how even tho you are making your way up pretty high, its gradual so its not too bad. We started in the AM and were back at the car in the parking lot by lunch time - so round trip took about 2 or so hours.
Love the views the entire hike up. Its a beautiful view. I love how you start in the "deep forrest" and then it changes as you go up higher to more rocky areas to the flat top which has stunning views over looking the water.
Pack some water, snacks, and hiking boots! Gorham Mt was one of our fave hikes in the park!

I happen to hike this trail after the area had a drenching rain the night prior. So I had to navigate through many water pools and puddles, which made it more challenging than usual. The hike isn't too hard but there are many rocks!

Gorham Mountain is not among Acadia's most strenuous trails, but it's a wonderful warm up. Great views, and interesting terrain (especially on the Cadillac Cliffs split). Beware that arriving early may be advisable, as parking can be a challenge. For more experienced hikers, Gorham can also be combined with an ascent of the Beehive and/or a hike up the South Ridge of Champlain Mountain, which has wonderful views and passes the Bowl, an excellent place for a mid-day swim.

Acadia National Park is beautiful, but... you need to go visit early morning hours during peak season. The first day, in the afternoon, it was soooo crowded we decided to drive around and scout the area, and we're glad we did. The very next morning we arrived at the park around 7-7:30 and nobody was there. We knew where every parking spot was located and saw everything we came to see (Bubble Rock, Thunder hole, Mt. Desert, etc). It was great!!

We hiked this trail as a prelude to Cadillac. Lots of bouldering, if I remember and a good workout for the day. I think we did this in a little over an hour, maybe an hour an a half.

The trail was well marked and not too difficult. We took the quarry path down to start our hike and enjoyed a nice view of the water before getting onto the gorham mountain trail proper. We were hiking probably by 9:30 or 10:00 and it was already pretty busy. There's a lot of rock scrambling, and I definitely wouldn't have been comfortable coming down from the peak without hiking shoes.
The views (and breeze) from the top are gorgeous, this was an easy hike that I highly recommend.

I hiked this trail with my husband and 2 daughters (41 & 20). My husband had asked at the visitors center for a easy hike since I have a disability and due to past medical issues I have not hiked in a while. That being said, this hike was recommended yet it was extremely difficult for me (thank goodness I had trekking sticks). There are a lot, I mean a lot, of climbing over rocks. And then climbing down rocks. There is no flat places to hike. The views are spectacular and the scenery magical but I was so stressed by trying to complete the hike it was difficult to truly enjoy the journey. My husband had the stressful task of making sure I didn’t fall (I have balance issues and vertigo). My 20 y/o daughter had no trouble as she was hoping over the boulders. My 41 y/o completed it without to much trouble. Bring extra water and be sure to use sunscreen even though much of the trail is shady. My daughter got a bit of a burn. I rated it a 3, not because of the views and scenery, but because it is a difficult hike if you have some medical/stamina issues.

How do you get to the start of this trail? Do you get a map at the park entrance? We will be coming from the Cadillac Mountain summit after sunrise.

Gorham Mt has it's own parking lot. You can get to it from the park loop road - past Sand Beach. Look for it on the right. Enjoy!!
