This is not to be missed! It is one of most scenic and tranquil places in Ireland. The ancient ruins take you back to another time, but the real star is the beauty of the valley. Plan to spend a couple of hours or more so you have time to walk around, hike, and take it all in. It would... More

Glendalough is a testament of nature's patient evolution. It is nature's gift to real people - people who have the eye for beauty, the heart for silence, the depth for discovery, and the passion for sturdy human bonds. The monastic settlement is long gone but its ruins testify the traits and values modern Ireland, or any society that claims to... More

Gorgeous and peaceful walk to the monastatic city, in beautiful surroundings, free car park with toilet facilities although I couldn't find a baby change so had to do her on the back seat of the car. We tried to walk up the green walk to the upper lake but the terrain was too bumpy for the pushchair, I wondered if... More

The monastic ruins are interesting, but the real attraction is the natural beauty of this place - especially the Upper Lake and the walk (under 2 miles) up to it. Just "be" there - let the awesome loveliness wash over you and fill you with the peace and sublime joy of God's handiwork. More

Beautiful complex, the graveyard, the tower etc, they really deserve a look, Positive: if you want to enjoy a picnic or just a day out it is a must to see, you got two lakes to discover and if you even want something a little bit more taxing just venture to one of the trials which lead you hiking on... Glendalough is a gorgeous place. The monastic settlement is wonderfully preserved and quite nice to walk around. There are two lakes in Glendalough - lower lake and upper lake. The upper lake is probably the nicest part of it. The lake is set in between the mountains and the view is fantastic. It's about an hours walk to the lake... More

We called by during a scenic driving day-trip around the Wicklow mountains and I was very impressed with the simplicity of this charming and historic site. It's very Celtic and reminded me of places from my original home - in Wales - that I have enjoyed. It was a typical Irish-weather day, soft drizzle but no wind so we took... More
