We did a day trip from Takayama to Kamikochi, just bought the ticket from Nochi bus station and you need to change a bus, pretty convinient. Best part is no entrance fee involved :) We stopped at the first stop and follow the signage all the way walk up to the upper part, clear signage and well manage wooden path.... More

the infocenter has all the information you need on hikes, guides, bears, weather, huts for sleeping over etc. Lots of mountain feeling in the valley itself - if you are not up for a hike in the mountains you can still feel the atmosphere from here or take small walks along the beautiful river

My family was staying in Takayama (Nov 2012) & had arrived on the 14th of Nov, one day before Kamikochi (http://www.kamikochi.or.jp/english/) closes for the winter. We were initially very thankful & hopeful to be able to see the Komikochi Autumn colors during our trip to Japan. We had planned everything out: - the Nohi bus ride from Takayama to Hirayu... More

Getting tired with daily job and the fabolous hectic of tokyo I come to figure the perfect place for alone to runaway just for a day. Couple of times I heard from my Nihonggo sensei there is a famous beautifull place far away in Nagano prefecture. The fact that this place is special for anyone who love hiking becouse vihicle... Kamikochi has longer hikes available, but for day trippers, there are about a half-dozen easy walks up and down the main valley with mountain and lake views. Buses and cars are strictly controlled, so the crowds are limited, but the main paths can still get a little crowded, so recommend coming in the afternoon and staying overnight so you can... More

We've seen some great sights around the world but Kamikochi park is truly stunning. The views of the mountains are amazing! We stayed at Takayama and the park was an easy day trip (via a bus). On the way back we even stopped at Hirayu Onsen to visit the Hirayu-no-mori onsen for a couple hours which was fun too. All... More

I'm not a climber so i just take the flat hiking trails in the forest, very nice & well kept path from Taisho Ike down to Kappabashi then to Myojin Pond back to Kappabashi, took me around 3.5hrs to finish the walk, with multiple cases being chased by lots of (really a huge crowd of it) mosquitoes. Propose those who... More

Me and my friend only stay night at Kamonjigoya lodge, but this NP is simply breathtaking-the people, park, view and even the river water is inviting us to repeat a second visit! the visitor centre provides useful tips, although we did not plan to climb, no harm getting some advise for safety purpose. Most local climbers are so friendly along the track... More

This very beautiful mountain resort attracts a LOT of tourists in the summer. Hotels are pricey if you want to stay in Kamikochi, which you have to reach by bus or taxi. (It's cheaper, though not as nice, to stay at Sawando, which is basically the parking lot for Kamikochi, and you could stay at some nearby resort like Norikura... More

If you can time it right, the fall leaves will coincide with the Alps getting their first dusting of snow. And if you further time it right for a cloudless day, the contrasting blue of the sky and the turquoise blue of the Azusa River will provide a sublimely beautiful sight. This is about as close to paradise as you... More
