Beautifully cooked delicious food and airy bar/restaurant. Attentive service and an open fire on a cold evening.

We’ve tried twice since new owners but sadly both times have been poor food, overcooked main course and puddings were very dry. Everything seems bought in rather than home cooked. Shame for the village.

We went with family for a Sunday lunch. Inside has a nice ambience and all COVID protocols were strictly followed. Very friendly and attentive staff staff. An enthusiastic welcome from Monty the dog as we entered! Definitely a dog friendly pub, although not everyone might appreciate Monty’s foobowls by the bar.
There was a decent selection of food and drink and all reasonably priced.
The main courses were on the lukewarm side as unfortunately the meals were served on stone cold plates. Hot meals should always be presented on hot plates. It would have been nice to have the veg served in a separate dish for us to have helped ourselves as not everyone in the party wanted all the veg so there was some wastage.
Desserts appeared to be bought in rather than than made in house but were ok for the price.
Overall it was an average experience which could be made even better with a little more attention to detail in presentation of the food.

Visited during C19 and sat outside in the marquee. It wasn't busy and the owner was very attentive/chatty. The food took over half an hour to arrive, even though we were first to order but it didn't matter as the landlady chatted to us most of the time,
The food was exceedingly tasty (sausages + lamb kofta) but served on cold plates and this made the food cooler, quicker, especially outside.
One drawback if you're not keen on dogs, especially in dining areas, is a large, black Labrador that was "very' friendly !
All in all, a nice place to eat as the food was excellent - perhaps hot plates next time !?

Visited on thursday evening at about 7.30 for birthday dinner. Ordered two pints of harveys but was told it was off. (Pump clip still facing forward) Ordered an alternative beer instead and a glass of wine. Two of us looked at the glasses of cloud, took a sip and gagged. This was off. Barman had gone to a table and returned with what appeared to be a half of the same beer saying "I should have realised that was off"! To my surprise he then said he would bring the Harveys out to our table in the garden. "Oh, is it on again then" I said. Rathur abruptly he said "it will be when I've changed the barrel".
Went outside and sat at a plastic table with plastic chairs enveloped in cobwebs. The Harveys was brought out. It looked slightly cloudy with a frothy head. Despite the fact that it tasted OK, it was full of debris.
The food, fish and chips, was no more than OK, rather oily and mean on the chips.
Will not go back.

Our first time visit, just been refurbished and has new management apparently. Barmaid was amazingly hospitable and food was exceptional! Cheese board to die for 🤗. Good luck to who ever has taken over as you have obviously invested heavily and deserve the success. Will be back when in area !

The Duke of York is a pub in Sayers Common on the road to Hassocks. It has good beer and food which is usually good as well as plentiful parking and an extensive beer garden. It is hoped that it will NOT be built on as it is an important village asset along with the superb Sayers Common village shop. The staff try very hard.

It also has a kind of 1970s feel about it, but it is nevertheless recommended.

We visited over the weekend and were impressed with the quality of food and great service. The children were delighted with the play area and safe in the fenced/gated garden. We will definitely be visiting again and were highly surprised it wasn't busier! Great afternoon all round. The burgers were fantastic, as were the fish & chips
