What a nice place with great people. We found Jorge Sierra to be attentive, courteous and super helpful. The hotel grounds were well kept, the views and food were consistently amazing and Jorge and the staff ensured that all was secure and taken care of. Will definitely recommend to any others that plan to come to Guayaquil.

We selected this hotel because of the safety concerns in Ecuador and the proximity to the airport. It’s basically at the end of the airport property and has a special gate in and out to the airport. The hotel has extra security and extremely helpful and friendly staff. I emailed them to let them know when our flight was coming in and they came into the airport to meet us and take us in their van and onto the hotel. Elvis at the front desk was very helpful and Franklin at the restaurant was great. They even checked our rooms before leaving and found my son’s hat that was left in the room. We stayed here twice coming and going with our connections. Everything was very clean too. Only small tweak would be to make the beds a bit more comfortable. But all in all, we felt safe at this hotel. Plus from what we could tell, things have calmed down a bit.

We stayed here prior and after our trip to the Galapagos and highly recommend! The staff is extremely helpful, including Jose Santana who accompanied us to a nearby store to pick up some meds after a closer location was closed. The food, both the breakfast and dinner options were excellent. The pool was wonderful with pool food service available. They also offer shuttle service to the airport and have a sign with your name on it to easily connect and find them. Overall, we are appreciative of the kindness and courtesy of everyone here. Thank you!

What an incredible day trip from Guayaquil! We initially were worried that there would not be enough to do with 3 days in Guayaquil and we were wrong. We took this day trip to get out of the city for the day and experience nature so close by. Simon and Yamil were the best hosts we could ask for. Even better that Simón was a fellow Canadian for 12 years. We started early with a punctual pick up at our hotel and headed out of the city to Cerro Blanco National Park to see the howling monkeys. We picked up a ranger at the gate who led us on a great adventure into the forest. High along the River bed we found the monkeys. They were as interested in us as we were with them.

Once returning back to the car (well supplied with cold water and beer after our trek), we made our way to the cacao farm. Full functioning with no other tourists, we were treated to a delicious shrimp ceviche lunch with fried plantains and juice from the cacao seed. Beautiful setting amongst the groves of fruit, nut and cacao trees. After a guided walk through the groves with lots of fruit tastings we made our way back to the city. It was absolutely perfect and Yamil and Simon shared all of their knowledge with us along the way. We would highly recommend this tour!

Guayaquil is not what we had anticipated at all. We were initially worried about being in this big city but it has so much to offer, is safe and has lots to do. It was the perfect way to end our trip to Ecuador.

Decent hotel, friendly staff, nice rooms.
Coffee in the rooms and has a gym. Decent restaurants near the hotel which is great as crime is crime is high.

Negatives is my normal pet peeves - missing coffee and sugar in the room and the rooms run very hot. Gym was decent size but didn't have much equipment. Only two treadmills, bikes and elliptical. While there were small dumbbells, there was no free weight bench. There was a multi use machine.

Big issue was there were no towels or water in the gym.

It was an amazing trip! The boat was super comfortable and the food was so tasty! Perfect mix of snorkeling, hikes and dingy rides. I thought 5 days was perfect amount of time. Bring pills in case of seasickness

Booked a 3 night stay in January 2024. Violence and martial law in January saw American Airlines canceling my flight and thus my entire stay in Ecuador. Trip.com and Grand Hotel both acknowledge that the reservation was canceled for free. However, Grand Hotel has still not refunded my reservation two months later. They cannot tell me what is going on even though I am staying at the hotel now (I rebooked my trip for Mar 2024) and am talking directly to their staff. Appears that they don’t have the funds to make whole those who canceled. Beware!!

Since our next stop on the tour did not pan out (lack of checking to see if museum was open), the tour guide suggested we take a round trip ride on the cable car. The car travels about 2.5 miles across the water and was built to relieve congestion and reduce travel time on the main bridge from and to Duran and Guayaquil. It was completed in 2018.

Near the main entrance of the Malecón 2000, a boardwalk overlooking the Guayas River, is the Rotunda, a monument honoring two individuals who played a major role in Guayaquil’s history. The statue is the exact place where two revolutionary generals , General Simon Bolivar from Venezuela and Argentine General San Martin, met to finds ways to free South American territories from Spanish rule. These two men were leaders of the independence movement in 1822. The statue in the center of the rotunda depicts the two men shaking hands. The flags around the monument represent the flags of the South American countries they freed. Unfortunately, we did not get out of the tour van as this was only a photo opportunity on the itinerary. 4 stars because we did not get out of the vehicle to view it up close.

Across from the Iguana Park is the Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of Guayaquil. To say it is beautiful is an understatement! You will be amazed at the magnificent ceilings and one hundred twenty-six-stained-glass windows. The original church brunt down in 1892 because it was made of wood. It was built between 1924 and 1937. The cathedral has two towers, a large dome, marble flooring, and stately columns. There are spectacular paintings and sculptures throughout the interior a well as several small chapels. I recommend visiting one of Guayaquil’s important and lovely landmarks.

We arrived here around 4 pm aboard a cruise ship for an overnight stop. However, due to political unrest, we were not allowed to get off the ship until the next day. Guayaquil is Ecuador’s largest and most populated city, and the most dangerous city in Ecuador. It was founded in 1538 as a native village ruled by the Spanish until it gained its independence in 1820. Our first stop was at the free city park Parque de las Iguanas. It is known as Iguana Park because it is filled with green- and gray-colored iguanas, turtles and pigeons roaming freely. The iguanas vary in size and were a popular photo op. They are uninterested in people and welcome the lettuce thrown at them from the various feeding areas set up for them. They can be found on the grassy patches, walkway, and across tree branches. The park has a gazebo-type building where there was some type of celebration as the gates to the park were guarded by men and women clad in what I believe were military formal uniforms. Entrance to the park is free. I recommend a stop here when your travels bring you to Guayaquil.

In the restaurant, DARWIN was the most friendly, quick, and helpful employee I have ever had contact with. Breakfast and dinner. He was capable of completing all of the tasks in dining: greeting, overseeing, serving, and explaining the menu.
