Beautiful castle, very well maintained and with useful and thorough explanations. The position is impressive. The highlight are the wonderful frescoes, unique example of non religious medieval frescoes. In the castle there is also a nice restaurant.

Review of Gasthaus Fink

The restaurant has indoor and outdoor space. The menu include local specialties and pizzas. The service is fast. The food is average. My pizza was poor and the other dishes were nothing special (the soup with knodeln was too salty, the dumplings too bland). ,

Review of Hopfen & Co

Nice pub in a beautiful historical building. Good beer and typical food. We had a plate of mixed cheese and charcuterie, then knodel and goulash, rostli and ham knock, all good. Desserts were good too. The service was kind and efficient.

Review of Batzen Brau

Nice pub-style restaurant with good and fast service and typical local food. Great choice of beer and they give you tap water (unusual for Italy where you’re regularly compelled to buy mineral water). We shared a big pan with sausage, pork ribs, ham hock, potato wedges and kraut and a dessert plate with all the typical local sweets. Everything was delicious.

A near-death experience on the transfer from Val Gardena to Innsbruck. First of all they informed that they would pick us up three hours later than we had booked, assuring us we would be in time for our flight. They arrived 45 min after agreed pickup time and then drove totally recklessly all the way to the airport, for ex 100 km/h on a 50 km/h road in a residential area. The airline kept the checkin open for us so we got on our plane, happy to be alive though…

My wife and I chose Castel Hortenberg for our stay in Bolzano, and we were blown away from the moment we arrived through our departure. Secure parking with private gates. Upon arrival we were greeted with Prosecco, and this type of care and attention was given to us the entire time by Tommaso and the other staff. The room was mindblowing, facing the mountains and pool, everything felt like luxury including the Acqua Di Parma bath supplies. Incredible heated pool and wellness center that included 2 saunas, hamman, jacuzzi, aromatherapy showers and salt room (we went every single night!). Dinner down in the castle was fantastic both times we went, and we were even able to taste their own 100 year old olive oil. Bolzano was a fantastic location in between all destinations we wanted to drive to like Cortina D'ampezza, Seceda peak and other Dolomiti locations. It was truly incredible to come home each night after exhausting days to Castel Hortenberg. I already cant wait to come back in the Summertime for hiking! Be sure to book with them directly so your parking is included otherwise via Expedia we were charged extra. I don't have a single critical thing to say, my wife and I loved this place and we felt it was LGBTQ+ friendly.

We got this place recommended by our hotel for the best pizza, and they weren't wrong. Their pizza is heavenly good! Friendly staff, also welcomed our small dog.

The Wiesenheim Apartments are basic but clean and warm. Generously sized apartments and bigger than the French equivalent. The apartments are situated around a 10minute walk from the Campinoi Gondola in the middle of the village. There is a ski bus stop outside the apartment however we didn't ever use it.

I would recommend hiring a ski locker beside the Ciampinoi lift. The lockers are heated and unlike any I've come across before. They are definitely worth the cost. From the lockers the Campinoi Gondola is easily accessible as is the Costabella chairlift which takes you to the Danterceipies Gondola. The other option is to keep your skis at the apartment and use the Nives drag lift to get you up to the Dantercepies and across to the Campinoi.

If your buying food the Spar closer to the Nives Square is slightly less expensive than the Spar near the Ice Hockey Rink.

The Ristorante Pizzeria Pranives located above the Ice rink is a very good spot and well priced for eating out in the evenings. Restaurant Rino on the main street was also tasty. Booking is advised.

My stay at Castel Hortenberg was an absolute delight. The Renaissance castle, meticulously restored, offered the epitome of luxury in the heart of Bolzano. The comfortable rooms, exceptional service, and exquisite dining options exceeded expectations. The spa area provided a serene escape, making the overall experience truly stunning. Highly recommended for a luxurious stay at the gateway to the Dolomites.

Review of Batzen Brau

We spent a rainy afternoon and evening here enjoying its vast selection of beers, plus traditional Austrian food. The staff were speedy serving and there was a super atmosphere in this busy place. Clearly they have a great reputation based on the number of people trying to get in. We enjoyed it so much, we came back the following day….the beer is so good!

Exquisite! My family of four was delightfully surprised at the wonderful beauty and service and this amazing property. It started with a long, beautifully tree shaded gated driveway that opened at the end to reveal a beautiful small castle...and things only got better. Greeted by an extremely welcoming Thomaso (sorry about spelling) and shown a beautifully crafted modern and perfectly appointed room that felt like a suite. Welcome cookies and water. An offer for a welcome drink at reception. A beautiful pool area. An amazing breakfast assortment. The whole experience, even its onsite parking and proximity to walk to town. A+ Don't book any other place in Bolzano... Castel Hortenberg is PERFECTION...

Alex is a great tour guide who made a good suggestion for us to change the date of tour due to bad weather. Eventually, we enjoyed both eastern and western tours in perfect weather conditions so that we can see the best of Dolomities. Highly recommended!

We were a table of eight including children and the restaurant managed to serve all of our meals very quickly which was great news especially with the hungry kids! Recommend the wienerschnitzel!
